.fin, Costa Rica and .wales

The European Banking Authority has asked ICANN not to allow .fin and .bank to become gTLDs citing the “potential for misuse.”

The Welsh government and UK based registrar Nominet said they will submit applications for two new TLDs: .wales for English speakers and . cymru for for Welsh speakers.

 

Application Window Now Open

The application window is open, and still lots of news coming out of the new TLD world.

Not many IDNs are being applied for in Arabic… Is the Middle East missing the boat with new TLDs?

A small start-up has secured the trademark for .bank and says they plan to apply for the new TLD .bank and .secure.   You can also read more on this from Domain Incite.

A group based in Canada will apply for .kiwi top level domain for New Zealand.

ICANN CEO and President Rod Beckstrom advises Bulgaria to go for a domain name other than .бг, the domain they really want.

Everyone’s wondering – when will ICANN open the second round of new TLD applications?  In reality, no one probably knows, but here are some thoughts.

The new gTLD applicant DotGreen plans on being more than just a TLD – they also plan to raise funds and help with environmental programs around the world.
